RESEARCH PROGRAMMES

We are interested in studying the biochemical and immunological cross-talk among dietary components, the gut microbial jungle and us. Our long-term goal is to identify mechanisms through which the cross-talk impact on our health and to develop a quantitative framework for evaluating disease risks. You can read on to find out more about these research programmes below.

Scientist in the Lab

WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY

We have investigated metabolic, microbial and immunological effects induced by weight loss surgery, in particular, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. We found that the surgery profoundly disturbed host-microbial co-metabolism  and resulted in a significant shift in the gut bacterial composition from Firmicutes to Proteobacteria.
